Brief New York Islanders Jersey History
The New York Islanders jersey has gone through changes since the team was founded in 1972. However, not as many changes as other teams that are in the NHL. Currently there have been two changes to the logo and the jerseys through a number of slight tweaks, but no changes to the colors.
The first logo drawn was a simple circular logo with the team’s name and a hockey stick. It was drawn in the team colors of blue, orange and white and kept until the end of the 1994-1995 season. The next logo to be brought in was named the Fisherman Logo. It only lasted a year and featured a fisherman holding a hockey stick behind the word Islanders. This was an attempt to update the look of the team but it received negative remarks and so the logo was changed back to the original one for the 1996-1997 season on the new third jersey. They were not allowed to put it on their usual jerseys due to short notice.
The New York Islanders jersey colors have never changed but the designs have been through minor tweaks. Most recently was the addition of four stripes to the shoulder pads, representing the four consecutive seasons of winning the Stanley Cup in the 1980s. There were also changes to the shaping of the lettering for a more appealing read.
